The education sector has been seeing a lot of integrated
courses to cater to growing student need for such courses. According to
reports, Chennai based B-school Great Lakes Institute of Management will be
setting up a new university, which will offer integrated programs in
engineering and management.
As per reports, GLIM Chennai will come up in a 30-acre area
in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh and is expected to start operating from the 2017
academic year. The first batch will start with an intake of 180 students and a
full-time faculty capacity of 40 professors.
The estimated cost of the entire project is around Rs 100 crore, over
50% of which will be funded from internal accruals. The institute might enter
into partnerships to support the project.
It was mentioned that the varsity will offer an integrated
degree. The final degree will be along the lines of the ones awarded by
institutes such as the premier Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani
(BITS Pilani). The VIT University, based in Vellore, has started a double major
course in engineering from the 2012-13 session. The first batch may graduate by
2015 or 2016, since it is a flexible system.
