One of the premier technical institutes in the country, the
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) has upgraded its
placement cell into a “Career Development Center” (CDC). The move has come with
the aim to provide comprehensive career solutions to the students. The new
center’s mission is to help make all the students adopt a career-oriented
mindset, rather than a job-oriented one.
As per reports, CDC will guide the students in making
choices that will make them industry leaders in the future. It will help the
students opt for a job or profile of their preference, regardless of the salary
package. Till now, the “Training and Placement” division of IIT Kharagpur was
offering placement as well as internship support only.
It was mentioned that the CDC will provide various other
additional services related to career development. These include soft-skill
training, industry-related workshops, different lectures, leadership discussions,
management development programs, career counseling from professionals, etc. It
will also work towards industry-sponsored research, stated IIT Kharagpur
officials.
For this orientation initiative, IIT Kharagpur is also vying
for corporate partnerships. Many firms including Mahindra & Mahindra,
Huawei, Jindal Steel Plant Limited, Robert Bosch, etc. are already part of the
program, institute officials stated. IIT Kharagpur is also aiming for alumni
support, to help students via the processes of mentoring, career counseling,
industry networking, recruitment, etc.
